Time Machine Now this is a treat. Some of the most exciting upcoming models from the M Division have been spotted together somewhere in Germany. The next generation BMW M5 was seen next to the M3 GTS and the highly-awaited BMW M1, or 1M or 135M as some call it.
The next generation M5, built on the F10 platform, will be unveiled next year at the Geneva Motor Show and is shaping up to be one of the most exciting M cars ever built by BMW. The 2012 BMW M5 is powered by an updated version of the engine found in the BMW X5 M and X6 M. The 4.4-liter V8 twin-scroll powerplant will peak at 578-horsepower and 530 lb-ft of torque. The 0-62 mph dash should take about 4.4 seconds, Last, but certainly not least, the BMW 1M (the final branding name has yet to be announced). Built on the current 1 Series Coupe platform, the 1M is BMW’s send off before the new generation 1 Series comes into focus. The car will have a very short production cycle, 1 year, and it will target BMW’s core enthusiasts. The new M model is powered by an updated/ upgraded N55 engine coming from the M Division. The 1,500 kg M1 also features a high performance intercooler and the output is said to be measured at 345 horsepower. The engine is matted to an M-DCT transmission, but a manual option will be offered as well. As any other sporty car, the BMW 1M will offer the much-craved LSD (limited slip differentials).
